Concept, design, and engineering / 3d printed foot
« on: December 02, 2018, 01:57:45 AM »
Hey guys, I'm experimenting with 3d printing and i thought that it would be a nice idea to make some custom 3d printed foots and attachments.

I designed this one yesterday, it is just a copy of the metal one.

Right now it's not working really well and I'm trying to figure out why it's making my stitches shorter than with the metal one.

I think that this could be a very interesting field where to make researches.

Let me know what do you think.

Thanks,
Ale

Hi guys,
I disappeared for a while and now you have to read again my poor English.

I went back studying programming and electronic and I worked a lot with the IOT (Internet Of Things).

I had back pain and I decided to build a smart back panel that could help me remembering me to don't stay too much sitting with a wrong position and to don't have sitting session longer than a certain time.

I'm happy to show you the project that I've been working on in the last year: smileBack.

I decided to release it as Open Source / Open Hardware so everyone can build it. I'm doing all the video tutorials and releasing all the schematics.

This means that you can build and sell it! Or make a better version of it. Or help me developing a new model.

It's very cheap to build and I’m doing researches to make the construction less expensive and time consuming.

I’m exploring 3d printing and laser cutting and I want to make it really easy and fast to build.

Right now the price in Europe is around 15/20€ but it requires some effort to be built.

I presented this back panel at the Maker Faire in Rome, the biggest faire in Europe about making and new technologies. It was the last month and now I have just finished the first tutorial about the physical pressure sensors.

The next one will be about the back panel and you’ll need a sewing machine for it.

Right, one of our heavy and bulky machines. (I miss so much sewing)

This is the first video tutorial about the back panel, soon I'll do all the others.

I hope to be clear enough, I know that I did many errors. (I was pretty nervous talking on camera with 1000w of light in my eyes).

If you have any advice is welcome.

Things that we did:
    • The back panel with eight pressure sensors
    • The code to run it
    • The basic electronic circuit
    • Bluetooth connection
    • Android application (It’s very nice)

Thing That we are doing:

    • Sensors calibration and researches for a new kind of sensor
    • Implementation of Wi-Fi
    • Managing big moles of data
    • Working on website statistics
    • Working on the new code for the back panel.
    • Designing and modelling the website
    • New design with 3d printing and laser cutting
    • Cad drawing of the PCB
    •

Thing where we need help:

    • Testing
    • Advises
    • Collaboration

There is also a website called smileback.cloud that is under construction, soon you could find all the information and see your sitting habits (If you have a backpanel)

TL;DR  I developed with my team a smart back panel that helps you to don’t have back pain and we are releasing it for free. Is easy and cheap and you can also produce and sell it. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and statistics. It doesn’t make coffee but you can help us to make it possible.

Thanks
alessandro

Packs and bags / Kite style backpack tutorial and schematic
« on: October 23, 2018, 12:15:21 AM »
Hello guys,
I'm not sewing a lot lately, I'm having a lot of stuff to do so most of the time I just watch what you guys are doing.
I'm experimenting with video editing and I did a little video tutorial about how to do a kite style backpack, in the description there is the link to my website where you can find the schematic.

Sorry for my english, I hope you can enjoy the video anyway.

If you have suggestion please feel free to tell me because I want to improve the quality of my videos and post more stuff related to fabric making and new technologies.

Thank you

Materials science / Sew carbon fiber plate
« on: March 03, 2018, 01:56:46 AM »
Good morning guys,
I'm searching for a very light material to use it instead of hdpe for a backpanel. I found some panels of carbon fiber and the thickness is around 2mm. I need to sew the 2" webbing to insert the aluminum bar, do you think it's possible or the carbon fiber panel is to hard for normal needles?
Anyone has ever tried?
I don't think  I can glue it, what do you think?
Another option is to use fiberglass that I know it's cheaper and more flexible (but also heavier) but I still don't know if the sewing machine can handle it.
Thank you guys and have a wonderful time sewing!

Good morning guys,
I'm in love with the xpac fabric and i discovered that i can make my backpacks waterproof if i put some seal sealing tape. I see that this is possible with many machines, ultrasonic and hot air machines. i see on amazon that there is also a tape that should works with only the iron. Actually i don't have money or space for a big and expensive welding machine but i found this http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/230V-110V-1600W-Hot-Air-Heat_60538214436.html?spm=a2700.7724838.0.0.r3aSDs  anyone know if it could work? I don't care if it's slow because i don't have a production to make but i want it to works well and don't have the tape going away after some time. If anyone is practiced with this type of machines could you please explain me the difference between the ultrasonic and the hot air?
thanks a lot guys
