That looks right! I knew I recognized them - I just couldn't think of what they were called.

Any idea what this buckle is on the waist pack (with the yellow tab)? I swear I've seen them before but can't remember the name...

Thanks in advance!

Ok. So we have two prototype bags on hand and both bags have been used in an operational setting. So what it sounds like, is we need to reach out to whichever companies, pitch the design, and see if they will pick it up. I imagined it would be a little trickier than that.

Thanks for the information.

Concept, design, and engineering / Bringing a new product to market
« on: March 23, 2020, 07:50:50 AM »
Hey fellas - I've got a real question here - My friend and I have designed a new medical backpack and we are looking to bring it to market. Before we do so, should we get a design or utility patent? We can't manufacture the bag ourselves and would need a company to do it. How do we go about asking a company for help? If we patent the design, can we sell the design to a company for production?

Thanks for your help!

For ease of don/doffing - not really for in-extremis use. The buckles have never been a problem for me shouldering a rifle.

Tutorials and techniques / Question about quick release mod

I have a JPC I want to modify to have a quick release shoulder strap like the AVS and similar plate carriers. Has anyone here done a  mod like this before? Or does anyone have tips/advise on how to go about the modification? My initial instinct is to remove the existing shoulder strap and make a new one with a QR buckle.

Welcome dude! This place is a wealth of knowledge. I've been following you on IG for a little while now and I'm definitely impressed with your work.

Materials science / Re: Sewing laminate

I've repaired this point of failure before but I'm unsure as to the cause - too many stitches per inch seems plausible. I know guys who were issued the early JPC had those straps replaced quickly using seat belt webbing.

Are you trying to surface mount the pocket to the sleeve or is the pocket a panel of the sleeve?

Surface mounting the pocket - taking the pockets off a bdu top and sewing it onto the sleeve.

I'm not making anything for profit - simply making my own tops.

I'm using several 4 drawer clear plastic storage "towers". They are stackable and large enough to organize my zippers, plastic hardware, metal hardware, hook and loop, scrap fabric, and whatever misc stuff I have laying around. The downside is that they aren't very sturdy, at least 2 of the ones I have aren't. I don't know where they came from as I found them in a dumpster and just bleached and washed them.

Question 1 - Do any of you guys have a tutorial on making combat shirts? I have the concept down but my first attempt left a lot to be desired - My base shirt was too small and didn't really match up with my bdu top/shoulders (I used a medium t-shirt and a medium bdu top).

Question 2 - What is the best way to sew pockets onto the shoulders?  I have an old Singer sewing machine and getting the material to lay flat with the shoulders is a PITA.

Thanks fellas.

Platforms / Mayflower chest rig mod
« on: January 11, 2019, 07:56:52 PM »
Another mod I did - chopped up my old Mayflower chest rig. This this has been cut and sewn a dozen times now  ;D

Cut the radio pouches off, opened it up, added Crye style attachment for the AVS/JPC 2.0. I left the harness loops on there but I doubt I'll ever run this as a chest rig again.

Here's a couple pics.

Thought you guys might find this interesting. It's being used for backpacks so I imagine it might be suited, or could be suited, for making some gear.

There is also a European option made by 2M due emme (what a strange name)

I just ordered a couple to modify my own plate carrier and do some field testing

Ya, I think i'm going this route. Thanks for the help.
