Does FedEx or UPS as shipping options help?  Or do they have their respective issues?

Depending on cost, but for a small order, the relative cost might be too high. I'm planning on making a bigger order to states (WTF included) this summer. I have a friend there who said would be wiiling to help me out (i order stuff from multiple stores to his location and he forwards them to me. Chris from downrangegear used to be my gearguy in states, but i haven't heard of him in couple of years)

I would need 10 meters of #8 YKK coil zipper in CB, Olive or Tan499 ( in which case i would need about 20 sliders as well). I guess multicam might work as well.

Preferably from Europe because covid19 has really seem to slowing down mail from U.S

Hi guys,

I'm looking for olive drab/similar shade of green (for example, AE34067 "green olive" or AE90784 "neutral mo") #69 bonded nylon thread, preferably made by American&Efird and preferably from Europe as i don't want to pay an arm and leg for the shipping. (If no one in the old continent has it, then arm and leg it is)

Or do someone have a source to get #69 bonded nylon from Europe? It seems that you can only find polyester thread from europe and i think that's pretty much crap.

The FS tubes are neat. They work well, but there are limitations. They can be squeaky, and it’s possible to clog them with debris. That being said, the 2M ROC, that seems to be the most popular alternative, have failed a few times in the testing we’ve done. We've had a few break and decided they just weren’t worth the risk. Maybe a bad batch, but we’ve been using FS when a customer requests a QR buckle.

Yeah, i have heard about the 2M quality issues. They are also a pain in the ass to use, at least in the application i tried them for.

I made a quick release cummerbund for my work plate carrier because i thought it would be a much more practical to use a qd closure rather than the normal velcro closure. Well, it wasn't

With 2m roc, you have to aling the two pieces just the right way.. try doing that without seeing the buckle.. like, when considering where that buckle is located in a cummerbund, you can't actually see it properly. When suiting up, the first buckle is easy.. you can basically grab both ends of the buckle and bring the PC in front of you.. but the second, provided that the PC adjusted tight, is difficult.. i had to find a mirror to get the second buckle closed.

I don't know if FS tubes are as difficult to use.. well, i'm about to find out as i have a few coming my way from a customer who wants me to use those in a couple of dangler pouches

Well frankly, i'm not sold about this whole quick release fuss, anyway.. my experience is that it's more like a pain in the ass to use.

I remember there being discussion over here about the use of FS-tubes?

I understand that FS sells their tubes for U.S based gear makers, but are very jealous about how they are used and by whom?

Well, i am based in Europe and a customer asked me to build him a design which involves FS-tubes, which he would supply for me.. if i take the project, should i expect to get a call from the FS lawyers? :)

Ok, i've been planning on coming up with my own shooters belt design, and instead of using webbing to create the pals-matrix, i figured using laser cut pals would save a lot of time and make the belt more affordable.

Now here's the problem; i know nothing about laser cutting fabric. I am of course going to outsource the cutting, but is there anything i should know about laser cutting?

How about the material; would ACRONYM 500D laminate do the trick?

Do any of you guys do cutting on order? I would like to try the design first before buing a lot of materials

Good point. For example; i use 8-9mm closed cell foam in my shoulder straps. Before binding the edges, i sew a single line of stitches about 1cm from the edge.. then another line of stitches with a zig zag in a way that when the needle is in the left position, it goes through the shoulder strap (about 1cm from the edge) and when it's in the right position, it just misses the edge. This "flattens" the edges of my straps, making binding them cleanly, very easy

Here's another example of working around the problem;

I also use a table top machine without a binding attachment. I pre-fold the binding tape from the middle with paper clips, tack it down with a small amount of fabric glue and the sew it. Instead of having a 180 degree curve in the bottom part (which are a total pain in the ass to bind without proper binding attachment), i have two 45 degree angles, which are a lot easier to bind

Here's a couple of better pictures.. like i said, this is my standard method for a backpanel and i have been using this for years. It's pretty simple, looks clean and what i really like about it is that it allows me to properly sew the shoulder straps into the backpanel itself, and use load lifters. I have never trusted shoulder straps that only attach into the seam of the backpanel.. i want them box-x'ed. But this is just my opinion.

Here's what my backpanels consist of; the backpanel itself (obviously the other side will be the inner layer of the pack. I always put closed cell foam inside this piece, but there's no need to sew through it; just sew along the edges and remember to leave enough seam allowance.. i'd say 1,5-2cm), shoulder straps (which will be box-x'ed into the aforementioned backpanel) and the extra padding with outer layer from spacer mesh and inner layer from 500d cordura. (Some people don't like to use spacer mesh, so you can use something else instead.. the same method applies)

Here's my standard backpanel; the padding is inside the spacer mesh pieces (made of two layers; top layer from spacer mesh, bottom layer from 500d cordura). Also the panel those pieces attach to, has closed cell foam inside of it, but no need to sew through.

The padding inside the spacer mesh pieces has a 1,5cm seam allowance so that i dont have to sew through padding in the seam, only spacer mesh

Just like Misadventure gear said;  you can work around problems simply by designing the backpanel a bit differently.
