Fire retardant sewing thread
« on: October 19, 2018, 07:42:13 AM »
Anyone here ever worked with fire retardant sewing thread?

My initial questions are:
Kevlar or Nomex?
Anything to consider when working with it?
Any suppliers that sell single cones of good quality, and preferably in military colors.

We looked into Kevlar thread, for suppressor covers and machinegun barrel bags. We have a small cone around here somewhere. The colours were VERY limited. Black, which is like a faded looking black, and natural, which is more of a yellowish colour. I think we got it from Cansew.

Nothing to report, we didn’t get past the drawing board with those projects. Only so much time!

You can get Spun Nomex in Foliage Green, Tan and Tan499. This seller is mostly out but you can still see the Firely Nomex T80 thread colors available to seek elsewhere:

Same seller but wider selection of colors and thicknesses left including Tan499 T80, ODS-1 T90:
