GSI plastic hardware
« on: March 07, 2019, 03:06:29 PM »
Folks,

I would like to ask you to provide feedback on GSI's plastic hardware regarding quality, durabily and compatibility with the ITW GT series buckles. Their prices are good but I haven't found anything on the quality yet.

This is from the GSI Main Catalog

Thank you,
V

They are compatible with ITW and the quality is excellent. We’ve been using their Ranger Green colour for our Ranger Green products. They also have Wolf Grey which is nice.

Only used their black ones (which should be the strongest if my understanding of polymers is on point), but I am really happy with them too.

No idea if they are nIR compliant if that's a concern.

Their quality is fine.
However we mixed the 1" SRBs with ITW ones a few years ago and ended up with broken female buckles. I don't remember whether the females were GSI or ITW but there was a small thickness difference which puts a strain on the female SRB.
As long as you don't mix they will work well.

London Bridge Trading has used the GSI Side Release Buckles for years, probably over a decade going by some of the date codes on pre-9/11 chest rigs.

That was the over-seas made buckles. The GSI USA plastics are pretty much ITW clones compared to the softer over-seas look.

As I don't have an EU VAT number, ITW Italia didn't want to trade with me (even if I would pay VAT) and I'm not aware of any other bulk ITW Nexus GT series distributer in Europe.  So at the end I gave up and ordered a big box of coyote brown GSI buckles from the US.
I'll report back to you guys about my experiences once the box arrived.
