Small quantities non mil spec hardware?
« on: February 09, 2016, 12:43:15 AM »
This question is geared more towards the diyer/hobby people on the fourms, is there any decent brands of non mil spec hardware? I'm looking for some buckles, d rings, triglides in od green and various colors and I'm having problems finding a decent source for small quantities of material and hardware that isn't bottom of the barrel china made. Thanks to twowaytrauma I found outdoor camo connection on ebay and I have some 500d on the way, but I'm clueless on decent hardware. I also need a source of od green binding tape and about 20 feet of coil zipper, normal silders & reverse sliders. if possible id prefer ebay stores so I don't have to deal with minimal quantity orders and can just order most things from one website.  Any help or advice would be appreciated very much

You should take a look at GSI hardware.

You should take a look at GSI hardware.

I had no clue if their own brand of hardware were any good, that's why I never contacted them or requested a price for anything. Are they decent hardware?

Have you tried rockywoods.com?

when I went to rockywoods I first checked the price of 500d cordura and the price kinda put me off from anything else on their website, after putting some stuff into the basket they seem like a resaonable dea. I just wish they had a bigger selection of colors, most of it is black and id like to get either a od green or a shade of green to match the 500d on the way

Rockywoods is a good place to buy really small quantities, if you need only few items to complete a unique project and don't want to buy 100s...
GSI hardware is ok. If I'm not mistaken, it's made out of acetate too. It doesn't feel like ITW quality but it's pretty decent and they don't have minimums for hardware.

I just asked for a quote on some hardware from gsi, and also asked for a quote on some nylon binding to see how much it costs roughly. I'm still going to look around more in the meantime though. I almost thought I had found a 10 yard roll of ykk zipper for $10, but it was moss green and only size #5

I don't k n own how small of quantities they deal in for buckles, but I recommend the gsi brand for side release buckles. I think they are as good or better than itw.

For binding, I recommend texcell. It's  $42 for a 300 yards roll. That may be more than you need, but the price is right.

GSI brand is afaik not made in the US. It was used by LBT back in the day, but I believe they changed it for ITW due to Berry amendment.

thanks, gsi just got back to me a few minutes ago, I had no clue it would be that cheap to go with their hardware over a reseller/ebay so I'm definitely ordering from them. I'm looking at around $20 for 20 slide release buckles & ladderlock buckles, & 40 slides & d drings all 1", the binding and zipper has a minimum and a more than I need at the moment so I'm going to skip out on it.

How much and what size zipper and slider are you looking for. I have YKK #10 and #8 with matching sliders (reverse bail).

I work with GSI USA-made buckles more than 1 year, examined it by special test machine, with ITW and Duo Emme too, it is +- same good as ITW. You can ask Chuck for additional info, he has all tests for this buckles. We had sew a lot of gear with GSI, and during year of war I have not any claims from warriors. So, i would recomended Chuck for business.
I know, they have imported buckes, but I am never buy it and didnt know about their quality.
