2' Dog Lead with Kong Carabiner
« on: February 12, 2016, 02:41:04 PM »

Added the SMC ring on there for more attachments that I haven't designed yet. The ring stows away when not in use to keep it from flapping around. Going to make some molle attachment points or belt attachments to help anchor the dog when a free hand isn't available.

This was a prototype and I'll have some more pics of the retail version 1 up this weekend.

Kong equipment isn't cheap paying retail prices. Have a price point of $55-$60 for these. More photos can be seen on my https://www.flickr.com/photos/139290789@N07/.

What am I looking at here? 1" or 1.25" webbing? Doubled up all the way along with the end hidden under the ring retention strap?

It's 1" webbing and you are correct. The newest model I've sewn up includes a 5" strip of loop for a name tape. I glued the folds and hook and loop first to maintain clean lines before stitching everything. It's definitely cleaner this way rather than sewing each layer separately like I did the one in the pic.

Made a couple of changes. I'm going to triple stitch the handle from now on to add some rigidity. Might even try sewing in some suede for a nice feel if I can find some locally that I can try out first. Sewed the velcro and folded pieces all in one go after securing it all with glue. Also trimmed down the sides of the hook strip before securing it in under the loop. The overall look is super clean now. Not sure how much I can do to improve it anymore than I already have.

I've used leather for the handle of a dog leash before. It worked out well.

If you need some strips of brown or black suede, I have some I can send you for free plus shipping cost. Send me a PM if interested.

TWT, I appreciate that. I'll be headed out of town for a couple weeks for some training. I think I found some that might fit the bill but haven't taken the time to measure yet. Been to busy packing and I leave tomorrow. Again, appreciate the kind gesture.
