Source of small thread cones?
« on: August 03, 2016, 11:56:42 AM »
Hey guys,

I'm in the process of collecting a working inventory of materials and i'm looking for a supplier of smaller (4oz) cones of 92 and 138 size thread. Suppliers seem to like selling the 1LB cones. Any suggestions for where to look? The point of this is so that I can keep a cone dedicated to the bobbin winder. Usual colors btw, coyote, foliage, ranger, et. al. Thanks

Why not have a fullsized cone for your bobbin winder?

That's my plan B; I still would like to find out how long it takes to eat up 2 4oz cones.

I don't get it.. A normal lockstitch uses the same amount of upper and lower thread, so if you use 4oz off your main cone then you should have also used 4oz off the bobbin cone.

If it's because of space, then ok. Storing 2x 4-6 colors does take up some space. However in terms of price, I'd guess you'd get maybe 8-12oz of small cones of the price of 1lb cone.

I have bought some 4 Oz cones in colors I knew I wouldn't use a lot (hot pink, neon green) from here http://www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TTE&Category_Code=nylon-thread-092#product-selected

I think most 4 Oz cones were $10, and I think the 1 pound cones I get from GSI are about 20.

You have a point essal... 2 thread sizes (at least) x 4 colors x 2 cones = 16 cones (wow).
